About the Sanskrit Language

Sanskrit Sanskrit (संस्कृतम् saṃskṛtam, originally संस्कृता वाक् saṃskṛtā vāk, "refined speech"), is a historical Indo-Aryan language and the primary liturgical language of Hinduism, Jainism and Buddhism. Today, it is listed as one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and is an official language of the state of Uttarakhand. Sanskrit holds a prominent position in Indo-European studies. The earliest known written texts in Sanskrit date back to around 1500 BCE, and it has been used as a language of religious and philosophical texts, poetry, drama, and scientific and technical treatises. Sanskrit has had a profound influence on many languages, including Hindi, Bengali, and many other languages in the Indian subcontinent. It has also played a significant role in the development of mathematics, astronomy, and other sciences. Despite its historical significance, the use of Sanskrit as a spoken language has been in decline for centuries and it is mainly used for religious and ceremonial purposes. However, there have been efforts to revitalise the language, such as the inclusion of Sanskrit in the curriculum of schools and the establishment of Sanskrit-language radio and television programs. In recent years, the use of technology has also helped to promote the language, with the internet and social media providing a platform for people to learn and share information about Sanskrit. Sanskrit is an ancient and rich language with a long history and a profound influence on many cultures and civilisations. Despite facing challenges, there are efforts to preserve and promote the language, and with the help of technology, it is possible for the language to continue to thrive in the future.
